Brendan Leipsic scores four goals as Winterhawks rally past Silvertips 7-5

PORTLAND, Ore. - Brendan Leipsic scored four goals and the Portland Winterhawks rallied from a late deficit to beat the Everett Silvertips 7-5 in Western Hockey League action.

Leipsic, an 18-year-old from Winnipeg, was named the WHL's Player of the Month for November prior to Tuesday night's game. He has 20 goals on the season to lead the Winterhawks.

Taylor Leier scored twice and Seth Jones added three assists for Portland (23-4-1), which has won seven games in a row and 19 of 20. Troy Rutkowski scored the go-ahead goal with 3:11 left in regulation for the Winterhawks.

Manraj Hayer, Dawson Leedahl, Kohl Bauml and Ty Mappin scored in a span of 4:09 to give Everett (11-19-2) a 4-1 lead early in the 2nd period. Trent Lofthouse added a breakaway goal in the third period to give the Silvertips their last lead at 5-4.

With his team trailing 4-1, Leipsic scored three goals in the last 11:16 of the second period to tie the game through two periods.

Leipsic's fourth of the night tied the game 5-5 with 3:51 left in regulation, and Rutkowski scored 40 seconds later to give Portland the lead for good. Leier added an insurance goal with 1:53 remaining.

Brendan Burke made 19 saves to get the win for the Winterhawks, while Austin Lotz stopped 33 shots in defeat for Everett

Portland finished 3 for 5 on the power play, while Everett went scoreless on its only opportunity.
