Washington Capitals re-sign centre Mathieu Perreault on two-year contract

WASHINGTON - The Washington Capitals secured centre Mathieu Perreault's services for two more seasons on Thursday, signing him to a two-year contract extension worth US$2.1 million.

In 120 career games with the team, the five-foot-ten, 185-pound centre has posted 27 goals and 26 assists for 53 points. He had his best season in 2011-12, notching 16 goals and 14 assists for 30 points in 64 games.

Perreault, a Drummondville, Que., native, registered his first career hat trick against the Boston Bruins in January and appeared in four first-round playoff games against the Bruins in April.

Before cracking Washington's roster, Perreault won back-to-back Calder Cup trophies with Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League in 2009 and 2010.

The Capitals drafted Perreault 177th overall at the 2006 NHL draft.
