Communities across Canada demonstrate their passion for the game and hockey spirit by nominating their community to be the next Hockeyville site, and bring the NHL to their hometown. The winning community of the Hockeyville competition wins prize money to upgrade their local arena, an NHL pre-season game, and a Hockey Night in Canada broadcast in their community.

The inaugural 2006 season of Hockeyville was won by the community of Salmon River, Nova Scotia on June 11. Since then, it has been an annual event being hosted in North Bay(2007), Roberval(2008),Terrace(2009), and Dundas(2010).
