• Kirkland was Kelowna’s second-highest scoring rookie in 2013-14, compiling 48 points (17-31—48) and a plus-23 rating in 68 games. The team finished first in the Western Hockey League with a 57-11-0-4 record and advanced to the third round of the playoffs, with Kirkland posting 10 points (5-5—10) in 14 games.
• In 2011-12, Kirkland played with Haydn Fleury (No. 9-ranked North American skater) on the Notre Dame Argos Midget AAA squad. Kirkland led the team with 49 points (25-24—49) in 44 games the following season.
• Kirkland skated for the Camrose Kodiaks Bantam AAA team from 2009 to 2011. He led the team with 40 points (18-22—40) in 33 games in 2010-11 before Kelowna selected him in the fifth round (103rd overall) of the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft.
