• In his first year at Boston University, Clendening had a team high 21 assists (including playoffs) and was third among all Hockey East defensemen in scoring during league play with 17 points (3-14--17). For his efforts, he was named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team and was also a Honorable Mention All-Star.

• He won gold at the 2009 and 2010 Under-18 World Championship. He tallied two assists, while posting a plus-four rating in seven games in 2009 and was named to the tournament All-Star Team in 2010 after leading all defensemen in tournament scoring with 10 points (3-7--10).

• In 2009-10, Clendening led all U.S. National Team Development Program defensemen with 49 points in 65 games -- he had 14 goals, and team leading 120 penalty minutes. In international play he led the team with 20 points in 18 games.

• At the age of 14, Clendening moved away from home to play for the Toronto Marlboros organization under the tutelage of former NHL winger Steve Thomas. He had previously played his minor hockey for the Buffalo Regals, Wheatfield Blades and Niagara Purple Eagles.
