• In 2009-10, Shugg finished second on the Windsor Spitfires in points (79) behind Taylor Hall (No. 2 ranked) and 10th overall in the League in goals (39). He added 15 points (5-10--15) in the Ontario Hockey League playoffs and another seven points (2-5--7) at the 2010 Memorial Cup as the Spitfires won back-to-back OHL and Memorial Cup titles.

• He began his OHL career with Oshawa in 2007 and was a part of the Spitfires 2009 championship team, but a broken collarbone knocked him out of the Memorial Cup tournament just two games in.

• Shugg started skating at the age of two on backyard rinks and began playing organized hockey at the age of four. He played his minor hockey in Niagara Falls and his very first team was as a Timbit with the Niagara Falls Thunder.

• He wears number 44 because the fours represent his hockey hero Bobby Orr.
