NHL Director of Central Scouting, E.J. McGuire
Strengths: "Colby Robak is a smooth skating defenseman with the keen ability to skate the puck out of danger. He goes in to scrums, comes up with the puck and almost effortlessly skates it up ice; combine that with a shrewd ability to look up-ice, head-man the puck and then join the rush from behind. Colby is going to be an offensive defenseman in the NHL."
Areas to improve: "He needs to work on not only his defensive game but on his battle game. He would prefer to go in and pick up the puck cleanly from a scrum and skate it out, which he does effectively, but to hang in there and battle is an asset that he’s going to add to his game in order to be a more effective player."
Outlook: "I think that after a year or two in junior or in the AHL, he project’s as a number two or three defenseman – somebody who will work your power-play and quarterback your power-play from the point and someone who will be an offensive defenseman on your squad."
Brandon Wheat Kings head coach Kelly McCrimmon
“Colby has excellent size and is a great skater and puckhandler. He plays a prominent role on our team and has shown continuous improvement over the season.”
Former Brandon Wheat Kings assistant coach Brad Wells
“He’s got a very calm demeanor about him when he plays. He doesn’t get rattled very easily. I think things really don’t bother him. Sometimes it might even appear when he’s playing that he’s a little bit nonchalant about things, but he’s just very calm with the puck, he doesn’t panic when he gets it and he makes a lot of good decisions.”
