Dave Barr
Dave Barr was named an Assistant Coach for the Devils on July 29, 2011.
Dave Barr joins the Devils’ organization after spending the previous two years as an assistant coach with Minnesota. He was named to the position July 3, 2009 after serving Colorado in the same capacity during the 2008-09 season. Over four years from 2004-08, Barr served in the dual role of general manager/head coach for Guelph (OHL). While with the Storm, he won the 2005-06 Matt Leyden Trophy as the league’s top coach, and in August 2007, was selected to coach Canada’s national summer under-18 team at the Ivan Hlinka Tournament.
Barr served Houston (AHL) as its general manager for two seasons 2001-03, winning the 2003 Calder Cup Championship. He spent the 2000-01 campaign as Houston’s (IHL) head coach, after spending the previous three seasons as an assistant coach. In 1998-99, the Aeros won the league’s Turner Cup Championship, while leading the IHL with a franchise-record 54-15-13=121pt mark. Barr also served as player/assistant coach for two seasons with Orlando (IHL), 1995-97.

As a forward, he recorded 128 goals and 204 assists for 332 points and 520 penalty minutes in 614 career NHL regular-season contests with Boston (1981-83), NY Rangers (1983-84), St. Louis (1983-87), Detroit (1986-91), New Jersey (1991-93), and Dallas (1993-94). Barr was awarded to the Devils from the Red Wings on September 9, 1991 along with Randy McKay as compensation for Detroit’s signing of Troy Crowder. In 103 appearances for New Jersey, his totals showed 12 goals and 20 assists for 32 points and 93 penalty minutes. Barr appeared in five games during the 1993 Patrick Division Semifinals vs. Pittsburgh, while seeing action in 71 career playoff contests overall. Not drafted, he was signed as a free agent by Boston after playing his junior hockey with both Edmonton and Lethbridge (WHL).


He and his wife, Debbie, have two children, a daughter, Allison and a son, Ryan.
