DraftKings daily fantasy value picks for Jan. 10

Sunday, 01.10.2016 / 10:52 AM | Eric Goodman  - NHL.com Fantasy Staff Writer

Each day during the 2015-16 season, NHL.com's fantasy staff will identify one player at each position worth owning in DraftKings daily fantasy hockey contests. Based on factors including but not limited to matchups, line combinations, power-play usage, statistical coverage and recent production, we'll provide you with lower-priced options that can help you build a winning lineup.

Players accumulate points in DraftKings for each goal (3 points), assist (2), shot on goal (0.5), blocked shot (0.5) and shootout goal (0.2). Bonuses are given for shorthanded points (1) and hat tricks (1.5). Goalies accumulate points for each win (3) and save (0.2), and lose a point for each goal allowed. Goalie bonuses are given for a shutout (2) where the goalie completes the entire game with no goals allowed in regulation (and overtime, if applicable). Shootout goals will not prevent a shutout, and goalies will receive points for any goals or assists they score in a game. Penalty minutes, hits, plus-minus and PP points DO NOT count in DraftKings. DraftKings lineups must include nine players (2 C, 3 W, 2 D, 1 G, 1 FLEX) and fit within the $50,000 salary cap.

Mikael Granlund, C, Minnesota Wild

DraftKings price: $4,300

DraftKings owners have to dig deep with six games on the NHL schedule Sunday and Granlund can provide a good return at home against the New Jersey Devils. Although the second-line center has been quiet in two games since scoring a goal and two assists in a 4-2 win Tuesday at the Columbus Blue Jackets, Granlund has done well against New Jersey in his career with three points (two goals, one assist) and six shots on goal in four games.

Drew Stafford, W, Winnipeg Jets

DraftKings price: $4,600

Stafford will face the Buffalo Sabres for the first time since being traded from Buffalo to Winnipeg in the middle of last season. The first-line wing is tied with center Bryan Little ($5,500) for the Jets lead in goals with 14 through 41 games and is third with 101 SOG. Stafford has potential to be a difference maker in DraftKings lineups Sunday given that 16 (10 goals, six assists) of his 22 points have come in 17 home games.

Karl Alzner, D, Washington Capitals

DraftKings price: $4,000

The hockey world will be focused on Alzner's teammate, Alex Ovechkin ($8,600), when he tries for his 500th NHL goal against the Ottawa Senators. Alzner is a sound value pick who assisted on Ovechkin's 497th goal in a 4-1 win at the New York Islanders on Thursday and receives ice time with the Capitals captain as part of the team's top defensive pair with Matt Niskanen ($4,500). Owners should have increased confidence in Alzner; he is averaging 4.4 DraftKings points in his past five games.

Petr Mrazek, G, Detroit Red Wings

DraftKings price: $7,500

It's the case of a hot goaltender against an improving team when the Red Wings visit the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday. Mrazek will try to extend his winning streak to four when he makes his fifth straight start. The Czech goaltender has a shutout and a 1.33 goals-against average in three straight wins. The Ducks have won five of their past seven games but remain 30th in the NHL with a 1.88 goals-for average through 40 games.
