Fantasy Spin: Give Blue Jackets defense a look

If you are in need of a defenseman, the Columbus Blue Jackets have a couple of players who are worth giving a look.

David Savard (5 percent owned in Yahoo leagues) had a goal and an assist in a 4-3 loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Monday. He has eight goals and 20 points (eight on the power play) to go along with 71 shots on goal and 38 penalty minutes.

Savard has a minus-10 rating, but is plus-5 in his past three games and has points in three of his past five games. He is also second on the Blue Jackets with 22:30 of ice time per game.

Savard's defensive partner Jack Johnson (49 percent owned) also logs a lot of ice time. He played a game-high 24:29 Monday and averages a team-high 23:53 per game. His minus-17 rating this season has been a detriment to owners, but he's a plus-8 in his past three games. Johnson had an assist Monday and has points in five of his past seven games.

- Patrik Elias (24 percent owned, C, LW) of the New Jersey Devils may not be an elite forward anymore, but he still has some fantasy value. Elias had a goal in a 2-1 loss to the Edmonton Oilers and has two goals in his past three games and 10 points in his past 13 games (four goals, six assists). Elias has eight goals and 23 points this season, and perhaps now that he scored his 400th career goal, there will be less pressure on him and he will find the back of the net more often.

- Arizona Coyotes forward Shane Doan (23 percent owned, LW, RW) had a goal in a 3-2 shootout win against the Chicago Blackhawks. He has two goals in four games and 121 shots and 39 penalty minutes.
