Dylan Strome named OHL player of the week

Erie Otters center Connor McDavid isn't the only top prospect from the team eligible for the 2015 NHL Draft and exciting scouts this season.

Dylan Strome, the brother of New York Islanders forward Ryan Strome, is off to a great start in Erie. The 6-foot-3, 187-pound left-shot center was named the player of the week in Ontario Hockey League after leading the league with 10 points (one goal, nine assists) in three straight road wins to open 2014-15.

Like McDavid, Strome was an A-rated skater on NHL Central Scouting's preliminary players to watch list for September. McDavid is second in the league with eight points (three goals, five assists).

Strome had a career-high four points in a 7-1 win against the Saginaw Spirit on Sept. 24 with a goal and three assists. Two days later, he had three assists in a 5-2 win against the Windsor Spitfires. He chipped in with three more assists in a 5-4 overtime victory against the Plymouth Whalers on Saturday. He assisted Darren Raddysh's game-winner in the extra period.

Strome, 17, is playing in his second season with the Otters after being chosen second overall in the 2013 OHL draft. He had 10 goals and 39 points in 60 games as a rookie last season.
