Stars' Ritchie to miss rest of Traverse City tournament

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. -- Dallas Stars prospect Brett Ritchie will miss the remaining two games of the Traverse City Prospect tournament because of an injured pinkie on his right hand.

Ritchie, who sustained the injury in the first period of the Stars' 4-2 victory against the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday, believes it is nothing too serious. He was wearing a splint on the pinkie following the game.

"I just jarred my finger a little bit; I hope to be ready for training camp," Ritchie said. "It's hard to tell right now after the injury but I think I'll be fine."

Stars general manager Jim Nill didn't seem overly concerned by the injury after having a brief conversation with the 2011 second-round pick (No. 44) at the end of the game.

Ritchie is considered by many to be the organization's top prospect. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound right-hand shot would add size and power to the lineup.

"I feel pretty confident [that I can make the roster]," Ritchie said. "I kept getting better last year from the start of the year. I just kept rising and I do feel I'm ready to make that jump. I think I have the ability and confidence to do it, so I'll give it my best shot."

Ritchie played a key role in the Calder Cup Playoffs with the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League last year with seven goals and 11 points in 13 games.
