Thanks to Blake, Stevens shares Cup with mom

Thanks to Rob Blake, John Stevens got to share another day with the Stanley Cup with his mother.

Blake, the Los Angeles Kings assistant general manager, allowed assistant coach Stevens to spend part of his day Wednesday with the Cup at Norview Lodge in Simcoe, Ontario, where Stevens' mom, Audrey, is a resident.

"For Audrey Stevens, it's an incredibly proud moment for her to have her son bring it here," Valerie Holland, program and volunteer supervisor at Norview, told the Simcoe Reformer. "It's created quite a buzz among the residents."

The newspaper said several hundred people came to Norview to see the trophy.

Stevens’ father, Bert, of Turkey Point, said the Kings' 26-game path to the championship was difficult to watch.

"It's hard to explain," Bert said. "Watching those games was tough. When those games go into overtime, they can go either way. Sometimes it's too much excitement."

Stevens spent his first day with the Cup in Sea Isle City and Atlantic City, N.J., on July 17.

Blake took the Cup to Norview in 2001, when the defenseman won it as a player with the Colorado Avalanche.
