Emerson celebrates Kings' development success

Nelson Emerson celebrated with the Stanley Cup in his hometown of Waterford, Ontario, on Tuesday, having watched his hard work pay off with a second championship in three seasons.

Emerson has been part of the Los Angeles Kings player development department for six seasons, helping select and nurture many of the young players who have contributed to the success.

"I get to follow [them] from 18 when they’re drafted and watch them grow, to watch them follow their dream and get the Cup," the 46-year-old told the Simcoe Reformer. "You feel part of it."

Emerson played 12 seasons in the NHL and was an assistant coach for the Kings.

The highlight was an aerial photo taken of about 750 fans in an image of the trophy.

Assistant general manager Rob Blake attended the event Tuesday.

"Our development staff is second to none in the League," said Blake, who will be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame on Nov. 17.
