Richter on Rangers' Lundqvist breaking his record

Monday, 03.24.2014 / 5:57 PM | NHL.com Staff

Former New York Rangers goaltender Mike Richter was a guest of NHL Live via the MSG Arena Cam. Current Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist recently surpassed Richter's franchise record for most wins, in addition to Ed Giacomin's shutout mark.

"You have to root for Henrik," Richter said. "He's such a professional. This is something that Eddie Giacomin and I have talked about a lot of times. This guy is not just talented. You don't get to be as consistent as he is without a huge work ethic. The guy goes out every day and tries to improve, and that type of professionalism you have to respect and it's really hard not to cheer for him.

"It was clear he was going to break the record for some time, so you want him to do well and the beautiful thing is this is what you're paid to do as a goalie, win for teams. It's a personal achievement, but it's also great for the team."
