Germany forces deciding relegation game vs. Norway

Leon Draisaitl scored two goals, including the game-winner midway through the third period, to rally Germany to a 4-3 victory against Norway in Game 2 of the relegation round at the 2014 IIHF World Junior Championship at Malmo Isstadion, in Malmo, Sweden.

The victory sets up a one-game showdown Sunday in the best-of-3 series that will determine which team will remain in the top division at the 2015 WJC. The loser will be relegated to the Division I tournament. 

Game time is 6 a.m. ET.

Draisaitl, an A-rated 2014 NHL Draft prospect on NHL Central Scouting's December players to watch list, scored his second of the tournament unassisted from the top of the circle at 7:41 to snap a 3-3 tie.

Germany goalie Marvin Cupper made 29 saves; Norway goalie Joachim Svendsen had 37.

"We talked about wanting to be disciplined and stick with our game plan and good things will come," Draisaitl, who plays for the Prince Albert Raiders of the Western Hockey League, told the IIHF website. "We fought hard and tried to keep it easy."

Markus Eisenschmid pulled Germany into a 3-3 tie 6:25 into the third. Patrick Klopper received the puck in the corner and dished to Eisenchmid, who wristed home his first of the tournament.

"We talked about keeping going, not getting frustrated," Draisaitl said. "We knew we'd get our chances and that's what happened."

Norway opened a 1-0 lead on a first-period goal by Jorgen Karterud at 3:32, but Germany's Sven Ziegler tied the game at 5:35. Draisaitl made it 2-0 at 7:50. 

Norway regained the lead with goals in the second period. Simen Nielsen scored at 3:58, and Tim-Robin Johnsgard had a power-play goal at 14:48 for a 3-2 edge.
