Gudbranson sustained the injury during a 5-2 loss against the Winnipeg Jets on Friday night, though he never left the game. He played 18:12 against the Jets and was on the ice when the final buzzer sounded.
A timetable for his return will be announced in the near future. A complete recovery is expected.
The third pick at the 2010 NHL Draft, Gudbranson played in all of Florida's first 37 games this season. He has two goals and five assists and is averaging 18:50 of ice time, the third-highest total on the team behind defensemen Brian Campbell and Tom Gilbert.
To replace Gudbranson, the Panthers recalled defenseman Alex Petrovic from the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League. Petrovic, a second-round pick in 2010 (No. 36), had two goals and nine assists for San Antonio this season.
Petrovic played six games for the Panthers last season, making his NHL debut April 18 against the New York Rangers.
