Compher to take calculus exam before game Tuesday

MINNEAPOLIS -- Long before the big game on Tuesday, United States National Junior Team hopeful J.T. Compher will have already taken a big test.

Compher, one of 29 players at selection camp this week on the campus of the University of Minnesota, is scheduled to take his calculus exam at 7:45 a.m. on Tuesday morning. His team will practice at 10 a.m. before traveling to Mankato for an exhibition game against Minnesota State University.

Compher is a freshman at the University of Michigan, but will take the exam on the Minnesota campus.

"I have to take it the same time as everyone else in the class, so I'll take it [Tuesday] morning on the day of the game," Compher said. "I'm starting the exam a little earlier than everyone else so that I can't send anyone the answers."

Compher, who has five goals, 14 points and a plus-7 rating in 17 games for the Wolverines, acknowledged he isn't too nervous.

"I studied before I left and have been focused a little more on hockey since I've been here," he said. "I'm maybe a little more nervous for the game, but I'll get through the test and then focus on the game even more. I know Andrew Copp took the test last year since he was in that class. It's just rough timing."
