Lupul practices with Maple Leafs for first time

Toronto Maple Leafs left wing Joffrey Lupul participated in practice Wednesday, skating for the first time in training camp after being held out due to back spasms. Lupul did line rushes with Tyler Bozak and Phil Kessel.

"Everything's fine," Lupul told reporters after spending an hour on the ice. "Obviously not the way I wanted to start the camp, but just happy everything's feeling better now."

Lupul is considered day to day and did not take part in the second portion of practice. He missed all but 16 games last season with a broken right arm and a concussion, and is in the first year of a five-year, $26.25 million contract he signed in January.

"He's moving much better, felt much better," Maple Leafs coach Randy Carlyle said. "We think he's an option for us in the next couple exhibition games."

Forward Colton Orr (leg bone bruise) did not skate Wednesday.
