Biron back with Rangers, but Hedberg sticking around

GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- New York Rangers goalie Martin Biron reported to training camp Friday after missing the first two days because of personal reasons.

Johan Hedberg, who was brought in on a professional tryout because of Biron's absence, remains in camp and was on the ice Friday afternoon with the second group of players. Biron is listed in the third group.

Provided Biron's personal issues are resolved and he's in camp to stay, the Rangers will not have room under the salary cap to sign Hedberg, who is an unrestricted free agent after being bought out by the New Jersey Devils during the summer.

The Rangers still have to sign restricted free-agent center Derek Stepan, who is still not in camp as contract negotiations continue between the club and his agent, Matt Oates.
