TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. -- Teemu Pulkkinen, a 2010 fourth-round pick (No. 111) of the Detroit Red Wings, had a goal and an assist to help his team to a 4-2 victory against the Dallas Stars in round-robin action Friday at the Traverse City Tournament.
Pulkkinen's goal 2:31 into the third period gave Detroit (2-0-0), which seeks its first tournament championship, a 3-1 lead. Martin Frk scored in the first period, and Andreas Athanasiou hit into an empty net to close the scoring for the Red Wings, who held a 29-19 shot advantage.
Defenseman Ryan Sproul, a 2011 second-round choice (No. 55), had two assists. Athanasiou, a 2012 fourth-round pick (No. 110), has a team-leading three goals for Detroit in two games.
The Red Wings, who went 2-for-4 on the power-play, received another strong performance in net. Friday against the Stars (1-1-0), Jared Coreau turned aside 17 shots. Thursday in a 3-1 victory over the Minnesota Wild, 2012 third-round pick (No. 80) Jake Paterson made 20 saves.
Dallas goalie Philippe Desrosiers, a 2012 second-round pick (No. 54), finished with 25 saves. Detroit, which sits first in the Gordie Howe Division, will meet St. Louis (1-1-0) on Sunday before the placement round is held Monday at Center ICE Arena.
