• In his second campaign with the Cougars, Harkins established a single-season franchise record with 59 assists. He also paced the team with 79 points (20-59—79) in 70 games en route to winning the Dan Hamhuis Award as the club’s Most Valuable Player.

• Harkins, who posted 34 points (10-24—34) as a rookie in the Western Hockey League, recorded his 100th career point on Feb. 16, 2015 to become the second-youngest player in franchise history to reach the milestone.

• He recalls winning gold with Team Canada at the 2014 Ivan Hlinka Memorial – where he collected six points (2-4—6) in five games – as his most memorable hockey moment. He also served as captain of Team Pacific at the 2013 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge and tallied five points (3-2—5) in seven games at the 2015 Under-18 World Junior Championship.

• Harkins began playing minor hockey in Germany before relocating to Vancouver, where he suited up for the North Shore Winter Club and North West Giants organizations. In 2011-12, he averaged more than two points per game (83-70—153 in 74 games) as captain of North Shore before being selected by Prince George with the second overall pick in the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft.

• His father, former NHL player Todd Harkins, is general manager of the Cougars. A second-round pick (No. 42) of the Calgary Flames in the 1988 NHL Draft, Todd played 48 games in the NHL with the Flames and Hartford Whalers and also appeared in the movie Miracle and reality television show Making the Cut.

• A hockey family, his uncle, Brett, also played in the NHL with Boston, Florida and Columbus. He draws inspiration from his older brother and Cougars’ locker room attendant, Nicklas, who has a rare genetic disorder caused by the lack of an enzyme critical for development of the joints.
