• Valek won a gold medal with Team USA at the 2009 Under-18 World Championships and had 21 points (8-13-21) in 57 games, as a two-way forward playing in Ann Arbor, Michigan for the National Team Development Program.

• Will attend Harvard University in the fall of 2009.

• Born in Orem, Utah, Valek moved to Zagreb, Croatia at a young age playing on his first hockey team Mladost. At the age of 10 he moved to Slovakia to play for Piestany for two years before moving once again to the Czech Republic, playing for Trinez.

• He played for Honeybaked in 2007-08, after meeting fellow Draft prospect Chris Brown at a Colorado hockey camp – he scored 17 goals (17-36-53) in 52 games for Honeybaked before playing this season with the NTDP.
