His grandfather, Don Luce, was selected 14th overall by the New York Rangers in the 1966 NHL Draft. He skated in 894 career NHL games with the Rangers, Detroit Red Wings, Buffalo Sabres, Los Angeles Kings and Toronto Maple Leafs and was awarded the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy in 1974-75. His father, Scott Luce, has been involved in scouting with various organizations since 1998-99, most recently serving as Director of Player Personnel for the Florida Panthers in 2015-16.
