• In 2010-11, his freshman year at Boston University, Nieto recorded 21 points (8-13--21) in 36 games – he played alongside fellow draft prospect Adam Clendening (No. 45 ranked).

• Nieto won back-to-back gold medals with Team USA at the Under-18 World Championship (2009 and 2010) and participated in the evaluation camp for the 2011 World Junior Championships. In 2009, he was the youngest member to make the World Championship team, making the jump to the Under-18 team alongside Jason Zucker (59th overall by Minnesota in 2010) -- both were leading scorers for the Under-17 team and played youth hockey in Los Angeles.

• He played his minor hockey in California until the age of 14 when he decided to go to Salisbury School in Connecticut for a year and then on to the U.S. National Team Development Program in Michigan.

• He got his start in roller hockey at three years old at the local YMCA alongside 2010 Anaheim draft selection Emerson Etem (29th overall) and fellow draft prospect Rocco Grimaldi (No. 33 ranked).

• Nieto’s childhood hockey idol was Paul Kariya because he was playing for the Anaheim Ducks and his favorite piece of sports memorabilia is a puck signed by Kariya.
