• His father, Bobby, played 18 seasons in the NHL with the Washington Capitals, New York Rangers, Los Angeles Kings, Boston Bruins and New Jersey Devils. He became the first American-born player to record 50 goals in a season in 1984-85 with Washington and won the Stanley Cup three times with New Jersey, once as a player (1995) and twice as an assistant coach (2000, 2003). He was inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 2007.

• He has committed to Boston University for the fall of 2015.
