• Turgeon, who prides himself on his two-way game, posted 31 points (10-21—31) and a plus-18 rating in 65 games with Portland in 2013-14. He added eight points (2-6—8) in the playoffs as the Winterhawks advanced to the Western Hockey League final for the fourth straight year, losing in seven games to the Memorial Cup champion Edmonton Oil Kings.

• His father, Pierre, was selected first overall by Buffalo in the 1987 NHL Draft and registered 1,327 points (515-812—1,327) in 1,294 career NHL games with the Sabres, New York Islanders, Montreal Canadiens, St. Louis Blues, Dallas Stars and Colorado Avalanche. He scored 30 or more goals in a season nine times, played in four All-Star Games and was awarded the Lady Byng Trophy in 1992-93. His uncle, Sylvain, also played 12 seasons in the NHL with the Hartford Whalers, New Jersey Devils, Montreal Canadiens and Ottawa Senators.

• He won a silver medal with Team USA at the 2013 Ivan Hlinka Memorial and tallied three assists en route to a bronze medal at the 2013 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

• Turgeon’s older sister, Alexandra, played volleyball at the University of Denver, and his younger sister, Valerie, also plays hockey. His other sister, Elizabeth, Alexandra’s twin, won a gold medal with the U.S. Women’s Under-18 team in 2008 and was to play at the University of Minnesota before she passed away in a tragic car accident in 2010.

• He wears No. 23 in honor of his late sister: “She was very close to me. When we were younger, it was always me and her. She loved hockey and we had a bond over that. When I’m playing hockey, I feel that Liz is always with me.”

• In 2010-11, Turgeon played for the Colorado Thunderbirds Bantam AAA team that advanced to the national tournament. He then tallied 40 points (25-15—40) in 40 games for the Thunderbirds under-16 team in 2011-12.
