• Hughes averaged over two points per game in 2018-19 while leading the USA Hockey National Team Development Program Under-18 Team with 34-78—112 in 50 GP this season; his 228 career points (74-154—228) are the most in NTDP program history, besting the previous mark held by Clayton Keller (71-118—189).

• He was named USA Hockey's Dave Tyler Junior Player of the Year in 2018 after finishing third on the Under-18 team with 27-41—68 in 36 GP (behind 2018 First Rounders Oliver Wahlstrom and Joel Farabee) and 13-35—48 in 24 GP as captain of the Under-17 team.

• Hughes, who represented Team USA at the 2019 World Championship (0-3—3 in 7 GP), has already had a decorated career internationally. He was a member of Team USA’s silver medal entry at the 2019 World Junior Championship (0-4—4 in 4 GP). He led all players in scoring at the 2018 and 2019 Under-18 World Championship en route to a silver medal in 2018 and a bronze medal in 2019. Hughes also captained his country to gold at the 2017 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge where he led all players with 5-10—15 in six games and was named to the Tournament All-Star Team.

• Hughes aims to become the eighth U.S.-born player drafted first overall and the first since Auston Matthews in 2016. His brother, Quinn Hughes, was drafted seventh overall by the Canucks in 2018.

• His mother, Ellen Hughes, played soccer, lacrosse and ice hockey at the University of New Hampshire and is a former member of the U.S. Women’s National Hockey Team. His father, Jim Hughes, was a member of the U.S. Selects team that won the 1988 Spengler Cup and has held a number of coaching and player development positions in the NCAA, IHL, AHL and NHL.
