• Hayton collected 21-39—60 in 2017-18 (63 GP) to help the Greyhounds set single-season franchise records for wins and points en route to capturing the OHL’s best regular-season record. He added 8-13—21 in 24 postseason contests before Sault Ste. Marie was eliminated in the OHL Final by the Hamilton Bulldogs in six games.

• He was awarded the Bobby Smith Trophy in 2017-18 as the OHL Scholastic Player of the Year, becoming the third player in franchise history to receive the honor (since 1979-80) joining goaltender Jake McCracken (1996-97) and defenseman Darnell Nurse (2012-13).

• Hayton was a member of Canada’s gold medal-winning entry at the 2017 Ivan Hlinka Memorial (3-3—6 in 5 GP) where he shared the team lead with three goals.

• Models his style of play after Blackhawks forward Jonathan Toews.
