• In 2017-18, Smith ranked second among WHL defensemen with 14-59—73 in 69 GP to become just the sixth blueliner in Spokane Chiefs history to record 70 points in a single season. His breakout campaign included a seven-point night on Feb. 23 vs. Prince George (2-5—7) – the best single-game performance by a defenseman in franchise history.

• A former first overall pick in the WHL Bantam Draft (2015), Smith earned two season-ending honors in 2017-18: WHL (West) Scholastic Player of the Year and a WHL (West) First All-Star team nomination.

• An on-ice leader, Smith captained Team Canada Black to a silver medal at the 2016 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge (2-2—4 in 6 GP) where he was named a tournament all-star and at the 2018 Under-18 World Championship.

• Models his style of play after Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith.
