A different kind of Subban

TORONTO -- Belleville goalie Malcolm Subban loves his older brother, Montreal Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban, but you should know that the two are different people. And it goes beyond the positions they play on the ice.

"If you know P.K., you know he likes to be the center of attention," Malcolm told reporters. "I feel like I'm a bit more of a quiet guy, a more humble guy. We share some similar attributes, but I'd say for the most part we're two different people."

Malcolm said if the opportunity to play with P.K. arrived -- the two are four years apart so they never have played together -- he'd relish it. However, he doubts it's going to happen with the Canadiens.

"It's obviously nice to get to play with your brother once in a while," he said. "I did it in Belleville [with younger brother Jordan]. They've got [Carey] Price there, he's a great goaltender. And the third overall pick, that's pretty high. They also have the 33rd if I'm there in the second round. … I prefer not to be [still available at that spot], but if I am, anything can happen."

Malcolm said he hopes he's the first goaltender drafted this year, and also said he'd like to hear his name called in the first round.

Despite battling nagging groin and ankle injuries, Subban went 25-14-0 in 39 games. His 2.50 goals-against average was fourth in the Ontario Hockey League, and his .923 save percentage was sixth. He's ranked No. 1 among North American goalies in NHL Central Scouting's final rankings.

"You sent your standards high," Subban said. "At the start of the year my goal was to go in the first round and play like a first rounder. And throughout the whole year, I feel like I did that for the most part. Hopefully things go that way at the draft."
