Kelowna's Sissons is ready for testing

Kelowna Rockets captain Colton Sissons appears fully recovered from a concussion he suffered in February and is looking forward to joining the initial group through the fitness tests at Toronto International Centre on Friday.

The 6-foot-1, 187-pound forward, who is NHL Central Scouting's No. 14-ranked skater in North America, finished second on the team with 26 goals, including a team-leading 13 power play goals, in 58 games as the Rockets finished in sixth place in the Western Conference of the Western Hockey League.

Sissons was injured in the team's 3-2 loss to the Kamloops Blazers on Feb. 11 at Prospera Place in Kelowna.

"I haven't had any symptoms, even after coming back and riding the bike after my concussion," Sissons told NHL.com. "I'm feeling fine and haven't had a symptom in months now, so I'm confident."

Sissons was a member of Team WHL at the 2011 SUBWAY Super Series, being named an assistant captain.  He also participated in the 2012 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects game, captaining Team Orr to a win over Team Cherry. He admits getting a head injury was scary.

"You never want to mess around with your brain or your head; it's pretty important to say the least," he said. "It's definitely nerve-racking when, after a couple of weeks, you're not feeling better. But I had all the confidence that I would get back from that and be back playing before the playoffs."

Sissons did play four games in the playoffs, notching one goal and two points.

He's looking forward to the fitness test that begins 8:30 a.m. ET. He'll be in a group that includes forwards Josh Anderson, Francis Beauvillier, Martin Frk, Matia Marcantuoni and Zachary Stepan and defensemen Morgan Rielly and Slater Koekkoek. Sissons admitted he did reach out to a few Rockets' alum for advice on the Combine.

"I talked to a couple of guys like Geordie Wudrick (Los Angeles Kings, No. 88 overall, 2008) and they were telling me about it," Sissons said. "But you never know until you get there. I've been working on [the Wingate test] for a good month. I've heard about the VO2, but haven't practiced it.

"It's all exciting … the Draft is coming up so quick."
