Gagne still hoping to return during Final
It’s easy to forget that Simon Gagne was one of the key acquisitions for the Los Angeles Kings in the summer. He was supposed to be reunited with former Philadelphia Flyers teammate Mike Richards, but his season effectively ended when he was concussed Dec.26.

Or has it ended?

Gagne got medical clearance earlier this month and is now available to play. It’s a long shot integrating Gagne back into the team, although coach Darryl Sutter sort of backed off his earlier stance that Gagne had no chance at playing in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

“You know what? You need lots of live ammo,” Sutter said. “If somebody asked a week or so ago, there was no chance then…you go from zero to whatever.”

Gagne said it’s been difficult not being a part of this magical spring.

“It is hard,” Gagne said. “It’s the best time of the season. It’s doesn’t matter if it’s first round, second round. The Final is the best time of the season. I’m around you know? I’ve been around since the start of the season. I didn’t go back home.”

Gagne is among a handful of Kings with experience in the Final, having played with Philadelphia in their loss to the Chicago Blackhawks in 2010.

“Just being there, talking to the boys, and having the experience of been there before and I was talking to them about what I’ve been through,” he said. “All that just makes you feel a part of it. I’d rather be on the ice, but at this point on it’s different.”
