With 1:26 remaining in the first period, the game clock stopped running for approximately 12 seconds. Before the face-off that was to have occurred with 9 seconds remaining on the game clock, Hockey Operations informed the on-ice officials of the discrepancy. As 20 minutes had been played, the period was ruled to have been completed and the teams were sent to their dressing rooms.

— Dale Weise, who grew up a Canadiens fan, on scoring the overtime winner in Montreal's 5-4 victory against Tampa Bay in Game 1
