The Ottawa Senators have signed University of Connecticut free-agent forward Cole Schneider to a two-year, entry-level contract.

Schneider, a 21-year-old sophomore, set single-season school records with 23 goals and 45 points this season.

The 6-foot-2, 185-pound left wing, a native of Williamsville, N.Y., was assigned to the Senators' American Hockey League affiliate, the Binghamton Senators.

For me, it's a great win for our hockey team and for a lot of people back in Columbus, especially our fans in particular … people who have been devoted to this organization, it's big.
