Looking into glass
PITTSBURGH -- The weather has cleared up here and the ice crew just finished spraying some hot water on the ice to clear off the top layer that was covered in snow.

The ice looks like glass. You can almost see yourself in it.

I just passed Dan Craig, who was walking down one of the corridors holding a big box, and smiling widely.

The snow that hit Pittsburgh earlier today did set Craig and his boys back about three hours, but all that did was put them back on schedule. As long as the weather stays the way it is right now they'll be able to get back ahead of schedule over night.

You can get a great panoramic view of what it was like here early this afternoon by watching my video report from section 527. We did this at right around noon and it was simply gorgeous and so serene. The snow falling added to the picturesque setting.

If by any miracle we can get weather like that on New Year's Day they will be replaying videos and showing still images from this Winter Classic for years and years to come.

But, we all know the weather forecast isn't too bright right now. We're hearing rain and temperatures that could get as high as the low to mid 50s.

Don Renzulli, the NHL's V.P of Events, spoke to us about the weather and issues surrounding it earlier today. You can read all about it by clicking on this link.

Craig spoke to us shortly after 2 o'clock right near his ice, before the boys got back on it with the hoses. His optimism shows through in this video.

Monday is a big day here as more NHL personnel arrive and several delivery trucks start lining up at the loading dock.

We'll have more Monday, but for now, unless anything drastic happens, we're signing off for the day.

Hope you're enjoying the coverage as much as we're enjoying bringing it to you.

Quote of the Day

When somebody goes out and is there to score goals, but is also there to make some big hits, fight, do all of those things, and he has a great mustache, it was great to see him get that hit and get everybody going.
