Red Wings without Datsyuk against Islanders
Pavel Datsyuk will not be in the Red Wings lineup Tuesday night against the Islanders at Nassau Coliseum and is considered day-to-day, according to Detroit GM Ken Holland. The nature of his injury was not revealed.

The Red Wings are expected to skate with 11 forwards and seven defensemen.

Detroit coach Mike Babcock is also giving Ty Conklin a second straight start. Conklin made 29 saves in the Red Wings' 3-2 overtime win over Chicago on Sunday.

Jimmy Howard, who leads the NHL with 24 wins, is expected to play Thursday against Phoenix, according to MLive.com.

Quote of the Day

We're buyers. We're committed to winning. That's what [owner Vinnie Viola] has said all along and what we've said all along. We want to win. We want to win a championship. We're putting the pieces together, step by step, and we're hopeful that Jaromir can lead these young guys to the promised land. It's a win-win for us.
