DETROIT -- According to the NHL's original schedule, the Anaheim Ducks and Detroit Red Wings each would be playing the second of back-to-back games when they face off at Joe Louis Arena on Saturday (7 p.m., CITY, PRIME, FS-SD, FS-D).
But only Detroit (24-15-8) will be playing for the second consecutive night; Anaheim (20-18-7) had its scheduled game Friday at the Washington Capitals postponed because of the severe snowstorm impacting the Washington area.
The game was first moved from 7 p.m., to 5 p.m., and then postponed at a little after 1 p.m.
The Ducks arrived in Detroit on Friday night.
“For us, it hasn't been that hard,” Anaheim captain Ryan Getzlaf said. “We didn't have to play a game or anything. We just had to get back on an airplane. We were able to get here in time last night to have a good dinner. We got in around 5.”
The Ducks last played Wednesday, a 3-1 win against the Minnesota Wild in Anaheim.
Anaheim coach Bruce Boudreau is concerned about the Ducks having too much rest.
“We've talked about that in the locker room. It will be interesting to see how we start,” he
said.
Forward Ryan Garbutt is expected to make his debut with Anaheim after being acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday for Jiri Sekac.
Detroit defeated the Buffalo Sabres 3-0 in Buffalo on Friday. Petr Mrazek made 19 saves for his third shutout of the season and Dylan Larkin and Luke Glendening had a goal and an assist each and Henrik Zetterberg scored.
It was the first time the Red Wings, who are 6-2-1 in their past nine games, have scored more than one goal since Jan. 14.
“This is a hard league to score in, you just have to stay patient and stay with it,” Detroit coach Jeff Blashill told NHL.com. “Honestly, it's been a lot this season, not just the last couple games when we've generated stuff and haven't scored lots. I think part of that's the league, part of it's we don't cheat offensively, so when you don't cheat, it's harder to score, when you play good defense.”
Here are the projected lineups:
