At the Rink: Predators at Blackhawks

CHICAGO -- If the Chicago Blackhawks extend their winning streak to eight games with a win against the Nashville Predators at United Center on Tuesday (8:30 p.m. ET; SNE, SNO, SNP, FS-TN, CSN-CH+), they will help coach Joel Quenneville tie Al Arbour for second all-time in NHL regular-season wins with 782.

Earlier Tuesday, the Blackhawks (27-13-4) announced Quenneville had signed a three-year contract extension that runs through the 2019-20 season.

"We like what we have here and we want to keep it going," Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman said. "Joel's played a big role in where we are and we're looking for that to continue."

Quenneville, who was hired as Blackhawks coach Oct. 16, 2008, said he also is excited. In eight seasons he's coached Chicago to Stanley Cup championships in 2010, 2013 and 2015, and hopes more are on the way.

"[It's been a] great beginning, but [it's] a tremendous group to work with, knowing your leaders have that type of character you hope to have on your team," Quenneville said. "They send the right message and you couldn't ask for a better situation to be in as a coach."

Forward Richard Panik, 24, joined the Blackhawks for the skate. It was the first time he's practiced with them since he was traded to Chicago by the Toronto Maple Leafs on Jan. 3. Panik will be a healthy scratch but likely will get into a game during the Blackhawks' upcoming back-to-back at the Montreal Canadiens and Maple Leafs on Thursday and Friday.

Panik was delayed while waiting for his U.S. work visa to be approved.

"Good to see him at least get here," Quenneville said. "[He] went through a tough process getting over the border. But he's here now. [We'll] get him on the ice and [get] a couple of skates for him before we determine whether he plays in Montreal or Toronto."

Corey Crawford will start in goal for the Blackhawks, while Pekka Rinne will start for the Predators. Forward Colin Wilson (lower-body injury) did not participate in the Predators' morning skate after not practicing Monday. Wilson likely will miss his second straight game.

Nashville (19-16-7) didn't go through line rushes at the morning skate, but Viktor Arvidsson likely will take Wilson's spot at left wing on the second line; he practiced in that spot Monday.

The Predators have lost three straight games and are 2-5-1 in their past eight.

Status report: Bowman said he expects Kruger to return this season but said it's too early to know whether it will happen near the end of the regular season or during the Stanley Cup Playoffs. ... Mashinter will play his second straight game on the fourth line and Bickell will be scratched for a second straight game.

Who's hot: Hossa, who turned 37 on Tuesday, broke a 14-game goal drought by scoring twice in the Blackhawks' 6-3 win against the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday.
