DraftKings daily fantasy value picks for Jan. 12

Each day during the 2015-16 season, NHL.com's fantasy staff will identify one player at each position worth owning in DraftKings daily fantasy hockey contests. Based on factors including but not limited to matchups, line combinations, power-play usage, statistical coverage and recent production, we'll provide you with lower-priced options that can help you build a winning lineup.

Tyler Johnson, C, Tampa Bay Lightning

DraftKings price: $4,600

Prohibited and/or not available in AZ, IA, LA, MT, NV and WA. Offered in IL and NY pending litigation. See Official Rules for for additional eligibility rules.

The League may have adjusted to Johnson's game after his breakout 2014-15 regular season and 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs, but he's certainly not as bad as he's looked through 29 games this season. With six games played and little production (one assist, nine shots on goal) since returning from injury, it should only be a matter of time before he snaps out of his funk once he gets over the lingering effects of his injury. He's playing with red-hot Nikita Kucherov, who's tied for the third-most points in the NHL since Dec. 5 (20 in 16 games), so Johnson's production should ignite the longer he skates with his usual linemate. Johnson and Kucherov form an affordable stack on the road against the Colorado Avalanche, who have won three straight at Pepsi Center with seven goals allowed in that span -- adding to their total of 67 allowed in 21 home games this season (tied for most in NHL).

Kyle Okposo, W, New York Islanders

DraftKings price: $5,500

There's no question Okposo is inconsistent, but he's been much better at Barclays Center this season (20 points in 21 games; 3.4 DraftKings points per contest) than on the road (2.8). He faces the Columbus Blue Jackets, who he tagged for two goals, one assist and six SOG on the road Dec. 12. He has three other three-point games this season, all at home, so he carries high upside any given night priced 20th among wings Tuesday. He also plays on the Islanders' first power-play unit (10 power-play points) and averages 2.4 SOG per game.

Michael Stone, D, Arizona Coyotes

DraftKings price: $4,000

There are not a ton of great options in the $4,000-5,000 price range among defensemen, but Stone is worth rolling out for a number of reasons. He faces the Edmonton Oilers at home, who are a League-worst 5-14-2 in road games and allow the fifth-most DraftKings points to defensemen this season. Stone is priced 27th at his position, tremendous cap relief for a defenseman who averages nearly 3.0 DraftKings points per contest (2.8) and plays more than 22 minutes per night for a contending team. He's averaging 3.3 DraftKings points per game in his past 10 games with one goal, four assists, 27 blocked shots and 17 SOG. He also sees a good amount of power-play exposure, with seven power-play assists this season.

Connor Hellebuyck, G, Winnipeg Jets

DraftKings price: $7,200

Hellebuyck has been as good as any rookie goalie since usurping Michael Hutchinson for the No. 1 job with Ondrej Pavelec injured. The 22-year-old is 9-5-1 with strong peripherals (1.93 goals-against average, .934 save percentage), and has the best even-strength save percentage (.954) among goalies with 10 or more games played this season. While Hellebuyck faces an always dangerous road team in the San Jose Sharks (14-6-2), they are the only team of the night on the second of a back-to-back set. He has been excellent at MTS Centre (6-2-0, 1.99 GAA, .935 SV%, one shutout). Roll him out with confidence for $1,000 of savings compared to top-priced goalie Corey Crawford ($8,200 vs. Nashville Predators).
