At the Rink: Red Wings at Devils

NEWARK, N.J. -- Right wing Mike Cammalleri will miss his second straight game because of an upper-body injury when the New Jersey Devils play the Detroit Red Wings at Prudential Center on Monday (7 p.m. ET; TVA Sports, FS-D, MSG+).

Cammalleri, who did not practice Monday and is listed as day-to-day, missed his first game of the season Saturday, a 3-2 overtime win against the Dallas Stars.

Devils (20-14-5) coach John Hynes said Cammalleri was scheduled to see a doctor Monday to make certain the injury isn't serious.

Cammalleri has 14 goals and leads the Devils with 21 assists and 35 points in 38 games. He had two goals in a 3-0 win at the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday and then missed practice Friday because of a maintenance day.

"He's a significant guy in the lineup because he plays big minutes for us 5-on-5 and on the power play," Hynes said. "As a team you have to be able to fill up his minutes. It's not that you want to count on one person to do it; it's that we have to recognize the areas he will not be in the lineup and have some other guys in parts help us in his absence."

The Devils have won three straight and are 4-2-1 in their past seven home games. Goaltender Cory Schneider, the expected starter, has allowed two or fewer goals in 19 of his past 25 starts; he's 13-8-4 with a 2.01 goals-against average and .931 save percentage during that stretch.

"We need to play with the same energy and urgency we had against Dallas," Schneider said. "Detroit is a great team and extremely skilled. They present a lot of the issues that Dallas presented in terms of their offensive ability so we have to make sure we're just as committed to defense and that we play in their end in order to get some chances."

The Red Wings (19-13-7) ended a three-game losing streak with a 4-3 win at the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday. Captain Henrik Zetterberg scored his first goal in seven games and goaltender Petr Mrazek made 32 saves. The Red Wings are playing the second of a six-game road trip that concludes Jan. 14 at the Arizona Coyotes.

Mrazek was the first goalie off the ice after an optional morning skate. Jimmy Howard also took part in the skate.

The Devils defeated the Red Wings twice last month, 3-2 in overtime at Prudential Center on Dec. 11 and 4-3 at Joe Louis Arena 11 days later. The Devils haven't won three straight against the Red Wings since their four-game sweep in the 1995 Stanley Cup Final.

"I don't know what significance [winning three straight against the Red Wings] may have with this team because 1995 was a long time ago," Schneider said. "But any time you're able to take three from a team in a season, that's hard to do. They're probably not happy with how the last two games went and they'll be gunning for us."

Here are the projected lineups:

"He's still going through the process of his rehab and it's touch and go on how it feels," Hynes said.
