DraftKings daily fantasy value picks for Dec. 21

Each day during the 2015-16 season, NHL.com's fantasy staff will identify one player at each position worth owning in DraftKings daily fantasy hockey contests. Based on factors including but not limited to matchups, line combinations, power-play usage, statistical coverage and recent production, we'll provide you with lower-priced options that can help you build a winning lineup.

Players accumulate points in DraftKings for each goal (3 points), assist (2), shot on goal (0.5), blocked shot (0.5) and shootout goal (0.2). Bonuses are given for shorthanded points (1) and hat tricks (1.5). Goalies accumulate points for each win (3) and save (0.2), and lose a point for each goal allowed. Goalie bonuses are given for a shutout (2) where the goalie completes the entire game with no goals allowed in regulation (and overtime, if applicable). Shootout goals will not prevent a shutout, and goalies will receive points for any goals or assists they score in a game. Penalty minutes, hits, plus-minus and PP points DO NOT count in DraftKings. DraftKings lineups must include nine players (2 C, 3 W, 2 D, 1 G, 1 FLEX) and fit within the $50,000 salary cap.

DraftKings price: $5,400

Little has done a lot for the Jets this season as the center on their top line with Andrew Ladd ($5,200) and team point leader Blake Wheeler ($7,000) on the wings. The veteran forward is tied with Mark Scheifele ($4,800) for the team lead with 12 goals through 32 games and is second on the team with 27 points. Given his affordable price and strong play against the Edmonton Oilers, who the Jets host Monday, DraftKings owners should do well with Little in their lineups. Little has seven points (four goals, three assists), seven blocked shots and 17 shots on goal in eight career games against Edmonton.

Justin Williams, W, Washington Capitals

DraftKings price: $4,800

It's not often that owners get the opportunity to choose the same hot player on consecutive nights, but Williams should continue to be a tremendous value pick when the Capitals visit the Carolina Hurricanes. The second-line forward is in the midst of a three-game point streak, including two goals, one assist, two blocked shots and four SOG in a 7-3 win Sunday against the New York Rangers. Having to play two games in as many nights hasn't effected Williams at all this season -- he has four points (two goals, two assists) and 14 SOG in five games in which he hasn't had any rest in between.

Kevin Shattenkirk, D, St. Louis Blues

DraftKings price: $5,800

Shattenkirk is one of the most consistent defensemen in the NHL having gone through only one scoreless streak this season. And even that four-game cold stretch from Oct. 13 through Nov. 12 is heavily skewed since the Blues top defenseman missed 10 games from Oct. 15 to Nov. 4 because of a groin injury. It's safe to assume Shattenkirk will get at least a point when the Blues visit the Philadelphia Flyers since he didn't score in the Blues 3-2 home win against the Calgary Flames on Saturday. Shattenkirk has eight points (one goal, seven assists), 14 blocked shots and 18 SOG in his past seven games.

Braden Holtby or Philipp Grubauer, G, Washington Capitals

DraftKings price: Holtby ($8,200), Grubauer ($6,700)

Owners can save a lot of their budget if Grubauer gets the start on the back end of two games in two nights, but they should not hesitate to grab Holtby if Capitals coach Barry Trotz rolls with his starter again Monday. Either goaltender should be a fine choice at the Hurricanes as the Capitals try to extend their winning streak to six games. Holtby leads the League with 21 wins and 1.96 goals-against average in 27 games this season and Grubauer has done the job against Carolina in his career with a 1-0-1 record and 2.55 GAA in two starts.
