Hiller surprise starter for Flames; Hudler out with flu

CALGARY -- Calgary Flames goaltender Jonas Hiller will start against the Buffalo Sabres at Scotiabank Saddledome on Thursday.

Hiller left practice Wednesday because of sickness and did not participate in the morning skate Thursday. Karri Ramo, who has started 15 of the past 16 games for Calgary, will back up Hiller.

Ramo was the expected starter.

Hiller missed 12 games after sustaining a lower-body injury in a 5-4 shootout loss against the Ottawa Senators on Oct. 28. He's played once, a 5-2 loss against the San Jose Sharks on Nov. 28, since returning.

Hiller is 2-4-0 with a 3.85 goals-against average and .856 save percentage in eight games.

Forward Jiri Hudler will miss the game because of the flu, the Flames said on Twitter.
