SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- The Arizona Coyotes will likely be without captain Shane Doan against the Calgary Flames on Friday at Gila River Arena (9 p.m. ET; SNF, FS-A PLUS).
Doan, who missed the 3-2 win against the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday with a lower-body injury, practiced Friday but is still feeling the effects.
"He skated and got through a lot of the practice but I would put him as questionable at best," said Coyotes coach Dave Tippett, who will be going for his 500th win. "He made strides today and we play again (at home against the Ottawa Senators on Saturday) so we'll see."
Doan had been heating up offensively with goals in back-to-back games and three in his past five games.
The Coyotes, who won only 11 of 41 home games last season (11-25-5), will be looking for their fifth win in the first nine games on home ice this season. They have won three of the past four in Glendale.
The Flames will get back forward Jiri Hudler, who has missed the past two games with the flu. Hudler led the Flames last season with seven points when they swept five games from the Coyotes. Hudler will be skating with Joe Colborne and Markus Granlund, who was recalled from Stockton of the American Hockey League, where he leads the Heat in scoring.
The Flames also have goalie Jonas Hiller (lower body) available. Joni Ortio cleared waivers and was assigned to Stockton to make room on the roster. Hiller will back up Kari Ramo, who makes his 12th consecutive start Friday.
Coyotes goalie Mike Smith, who picked up his ninth win Wednesday after missing time with a lower-body injury, will start again Friday.
The Coyotes improved to 6-1-0 in the Pacific Division with their win against the Ducks and will try to win another division game against the Flames, who are 3-8-1 on the road and have scored three goals or fewer in seven consecutive games.
The Coyotes will be wearing their old black Kachina-style jerseys which they used when they moved to Arizona in 1996.
"I like the black. They are unique and they go back into the history of the organization and the players who played back then," Tippett said.
Tippett has 197 wins with the Coyotes and is the all-time franchise leader.
