At the Rink: Bruins at Red Wings

DETROIT -- Landon Ferraro returns to familiar surroundings Wednesday when the Boston Bruins  play the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena (7:30 p.m. ET; TVA Sports, NESN, FS-D).

The forward, who began the season with Detroit, was picked up on waivers Sunday by Boston and will play his second game for the Bruins.

"It's a little weird, for sure," Ferraro said. "Playing soccer in the hall (which many NHL teams do to warm up before a game or practice) and seeing the same people. … But it's exciting. I'm going to be on a team where I not only get the chance to play but to contribute."

Ferraro, 24, and the son of former NHL player Ray Ferraro, didn't have a point and was minus-3 in 10 games with Detroit this season. He was taken by the Red Wings with the 32nd pick in the 2009 NHL Draft.

It also appeared another former Red Wings player would be on the ice for Boston.

Bruins backup goaltender Jonas Gustavsson, who spent the past three seasons with Detroit, came off the ice from the morning skate before No. 1 goalie Tuukka Rask.

The goalie who comes of the ice first usually gets the start that night, but neither Bruins coach Claude Julien nor Gustavsson would say whether he will start.

With the return of forward Brad Richards to the lineup this past weekend, the Red Wings hope their line combinations will remain stable for a while.

"Part of it's lines and part of it's usage," coach Jeff Blashill said. "We've changed our thought process a little bit on that. The way the lines are set up right now I think it plays to each individual line's strength, and I also think it gives you a chance to have a little more balanced scoring.

"So far we like it. Obviously when you win you like it and when you lose you look to see if there's changes that make more sense. It doesn't mean you have to change. That's one thing we'll continue to evaluate as we move along."

Detroit is 3-0-1 in its past four games.

The Bruins defeated the Red Wings 3-1 in Boston on Nov. 14.

"We played really well against them and won," Julien said. " … They are a pretty good hockey team that has a lot of skill. … I expect a real tough game tonight."
