TAMPA -- Forward Ryan Callahan could be back in the lineup when the Tampa Bay Lightning play the Anaheim Ducks at Amalie Arena on Saturday (7 p.m. ET; PRIME, FS-SD, SUN).
Callahan was a full participant in practice Friday and did not wear a non-contact jersey. Lightning coach Jon Cooper did not give additional details on Callahan's playing status.
"I'm not sure," Cooper said. "It'll be a game-time decision."
Tampa Bay (9-9-3) earned a 2-1 win against the New York Rangers on Thursday despite missing five of its top nine forwards. Tyler Johnson participated in the optional morning skate without a non-contact jersey but he and Jonathan Drouin are doubtful Saturday, while Cedric Paquette and Ondrej Palat will be out.
If Callahan can't play Saturday, Cooper may add Luke Witkowski to the lineup and go with seven defensemen like he did Thursday. Forward Mike Angelidis, who was called up from Syracuse of the American Hockey League, would be another option.
Cooper said whoever suits up for the Lightning will have to deal with a hungry Ducks team.
"I see two teams that a lot of people really had high expectations coming into the year," Cooper said. "[And] both coaches are looking at our records saying we'd like to be a little bit better than where we are, so I would expect this to be a pretty good one tonight."
The Ducks (7-9-4) got off to a slow start this season but are 6-2-2 in their past 10 games.
"Much like the Rangers, who came in playing well and had won nine straight, Anaheim is probably playing their best hockey of the season," Cooper said. "I think they've gotten 40-plus shots in the last three games. I don't think the Nashville game turned out the way they wanted but they probably deserved a better fate."
Goalie Frederik Andersen will start for the Ducks; he is 2-1-2 in his past five games. Andersen will be going against Ben Bishop, who will be trying to get his record above .500 (7-7-2).
Ducks defenseman Hampus Lindholm (upper body) will be out Saturday and replaced by Korbinian Holzer.
