At the Rink: Maple Leafs at Rangers

NEW YORK -- A winning streak will come to an end when the New York Rangers and Toronto Maple Leafs play against each other at Madison Square Garden on Sunday.

The Rangers have won eight consecutive games and are 10-0-2 in their past 12 games. The Maple Leafs have won three in a row and have gone five straight games without a regulation loss (3-0-2). Toronto won only two of its first 12 games (2-8-2) before its five-game point streak.

This will be the Rangers 11th home game, the most of any team in the Eastern Conference to date. They are 8-1-1 at home this season, including a 3-1 win against Toronto at the Garden on Oct. 30 behind forward Mats Zuccarello's hat trick and goalie Henrik Lundqvist's 22 saves.

Both teams are playing the second game in a back-to-back set. The Rangers won 2-1 in a shootout at the Ottawa Senators on Saturday; the Maple Leafs defeated the Vancouver Canucks 4-2 at Air Canada Centre behind 43 saves from goalie James Reimer.

Lundqvist is expected to be a spectator against Toronto, at least for the start of the game. Backup goalie Antti Raanta will make his fourth start of the season.

Raanta has been impressive in limited work with a 3-0-0 record, an 0.67 goals-against average and .976 save percentage. All four of Raanta's starts have come in the second game of a back-to-back.

Goalie Jonathan Bernier will start for the Maple Leafs. Bernier is 0-6-1 with a 3.02 GAA and .899 save percentage.

Status report: McIlrath is in the lineup for Boyle after being a healthy scratch for the past four games. Rangers coach Alain Vigneault said he wants to give Boyle, 39, some extra rest this season and also needs to get McIlrath in the lineup. He said he has liked Boyle's game of late, but this was a good time to do it because it's the Rangers' fourth game in six days and they do not play again until Thursday.

Who's hot: For the Rangers, Hayes has nine points on four goals and five assists in the past 10 games after starting the season with three points in his first seven games. In addition, Kreider has four points in the past four games (2-2-4). … For the Maple Leafs, Parenteau (2-1-3), Matthias (1-2-3) and Bozak (1-2-3) carry three-game point scoring streaks into the game Sunday.
