At the Rink: Canucks at Devils

NEWARK, N.J. -- New Jersey Devils goaltender Keith Kinkaid will make his third start of the sesaon Sunday against the Vancouver Canucks at Prudential Center (5 p.m. ET; SNP, MSG+ 2).

It will be Kinkaid's first game since a 3-1 home loss to the Nashville Predators on Oct. 13.

"I just think with the way the schedule is set up and the fact Cory [Schneider] has played quite a bit, we felt this would be a good game for [Kinkaid]," Devils coach John Hynes said.

Schneider, who spent five seasons with the Canucks before the Devils acquired him in a trade June 30, 2013, had started the past 10 games (7-2-1). Schneider is 1-1-2 with a 2.21 goals-against average and .920 save percentage in four games against the Canucks. Kinkaid will face them for the first time.

Hynes said Schneider was not too concerned about getting the start against his former team.

"I think that time has passed him a little bit and he's been here for a while," Hynes said. "I think Cory even once before that when it's a home game in New Jersey, it's different. If the game were in Vancouver that might be a different story vs. playing in New Jersey. We did talk to him about it and there is no issue."

The Devils, playing the second game of a three-game homestand, have won seven of nine (7-2-0), including a 4-2 victory against the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday.

"We enjoyed the game after the game [against Chicago], but on Saturday went back to work and talked about some areas we want to continue to be better at," Hynes said. "The Chicago game is in the past. As good as you felt after that one, if you don't win this one you're not going to feel as great."

Canucks coach Willie Desjardins will give goalie Ryan Miller his fourth straight start. Miller made 22 saves in a 3-2 loss at the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday.

Vancouver is playing the second of a seven-game road trip that continues Tuesday at the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Canucks lost for the first time in regulation on the road this season against the Sabres.

Status report: Biega was recalled from Utica of the American Hockey League on Sunday to replace Tanev, who is day-to-day, according to Desjardins. ... Canucks goalie Jacob Markstrom, who has been out since sustaining a hamstring injury during the preseason, is in Utica for a conditioning stint. … Hynes said that he will make no lineup changes other than Kinkaid. Matteau will be a healthy scratch for a sixth straight game.
