At the Rink: Bruins at Panthers

SUNRISE, Fla. -- Forwards Reilly Smith and Jimmy Hayes are off to good starts with their new team, and they'll face off Friday for the first time since being traded for one another when the Florida Panthers play the Boston Bruins at BB&T Center (7:30 p.m. ET; NESN, FS-F).

Smith, acquired from the Bruins along with the contract of forward Marc Savard for Hayes on July 1, is third on the Panthers with seven points.

"I think pretty much everyone looks forward to [games against their former team]," Smith said after the morning skate. "I don't know too many people who don't. They were definitely circled on my calendar and I think a lot of people go through the same experience. It should be fun. I'm looking forward to it."

Hayes is fourth on the Bruins with eight points after going without a point in the first three games.

"It's always fun playing against some of your buddies," Hayes said. "I was just here last year. It's exciting. They're a hard-working team, have some talented players up front. They're young, similar to us, play a strong north-south game. They've been scoring goals too, so it's a real good test for us."

The Bruins come into the game 4-0-1 in their past five after starting 0-3-0. They have averaged more than five goals per game during that stretch.

Center David Krejci has led the way offensively, recording at least one point in every game this season. Krejci is second in the NHL with 14 points and his eight-game point streak is the longest active streak in the League.

"He's really feeling it right now," Bruins coach Claude Julien said. "He's off to a great start. When you see David succeed, it's when he's skating and when he's really involved, and that's what he's done from the get-go. I think he was a determined individual this year to come back and help us out. As long as his feet are moving, his hands are there and the creativity continues to show, that's the David Krejci that we've grown accustomed to having."

Julien said defenseman Kevan Miller, who sustained an apparent lower-body injury Tuesday in a 6-0 win against the Arizona Coyotes, was good to go. Miller averages 20:01 of ice time, but was limited to 10:29 against Arizona.

The Panthers (5-3-1) are expected to be without forward Jaromir Jagr, who sustained a lower-body injury Tuesday in the first period of a 4-1 victory against the Colorado Avalanche.

Jagr indicated after the morning skate he would not be playing, but Panthers coach Gerard Gallant wouldn't rule him out in case Jagr came back to the rink feeling better and wanting to play.

Assuming Jagr is out, veteran Jussi Jokinen is expected to join Nick Bjugstad and Jonathan Huberdeau on the injury-riddled first line.

Center Aleksander Barkov will miss his third game because of a hand injury he sustained eight days ago in a 3-2 loss against the Chicago Blackhawks.

The game Friday will mark the NHL debut of Panthers forward Logan Shaw.

Shaw, a third-round pick (No. 76) of the Panthers in the 2011 NHL Draft, had two goals in five games with the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League before he was recalled Thursday.

Shaw wore No. 68 at Panthers training camp every summer before Jagr joined the team in a trade last February.

"Obviously, I guess he gets priority over that number," Shaw said with a smile. "He's something special. It's pretty special just to be in the same room as him."

Status report: Julien said Kemppainen, who sustained an undisclosed injury against Arizona, was a question mark.
