DraftKings daily fantasy value picks for Oct. 28

Each day during the 2015-16 season, NHL.com's fantasy staff will identify one player at each position worth owning in DraftKings daily fantasy hockey contests. Based on factors including but not limited to matchups, line combinations, power-play usage, statistical coverage and recent production, we'll provide you with lower-priced options that can help you build a winning lineup.

Players accumulate points in DraftKings for each goal (3 points), assist (2), shot on goal (0.5), blocked shot (0.5) and shootout goal (0.2). Bonuses are given for shorthanded points (1) and hat tricks (1.5). Goalies accumulate points for each win (3) and save (0.2), and lose a point for each goal allowed. Goalie bonuses are given for a shutout (2) where the goalie completes the entire game with no goals allowed in regulation (and overtime, if applicable). Shootout goals will not prevent a shutout, and goalies will receive points for any goals or assists they score in a game. Penalty minutes, hits, plus-minus and PP points DO NOT count in DraftKings. DraftKings lineups must include nine players (2 C, 3 W, 2 D, 1 G, 1 FLEX) and fit within the $50,000 salary cap.

Evgeny Kuznetsov, C, Washington Capitals

DraftKings price: $5,400

You simply can't beat this price for arguably the hottest forward in the NHL. He's playing with Alex Ovechkin and T.J. Oshie at even strength, and busted out for five points (including a hat trick bonus), seven shots on goal and one block last Friday against the Edmonton Oilers (18.5 DraftKings points!). He has points in four of his past five and multipoint outings on three occasions. Even with Nicklas Backstrom returning to the lineup with elite point production, Capitals coach Barry Trotz is sticking with the Russian duo of Kuznetsov and Ovechkin. On a light game night like this, it's incredibly convenient to invest in the affordable Kuznetsov for cap relief if you're going to spend up for Ovechkin ($9,300).

Shane Prince, W, Ottawa Senators

DraftKings price: $2,500

The average DFS owner probably doesn't know who Prince is, let alone that he's going to see top-six time with Mike Hoffman out again because of injury. It remains to be seen if Prince will stick with Kyle Turris and Mark Stone or latch on with Mika Zibanejad on Ottawa's second line, but he may be worth a flyer priced at the bare-minimum salary for DraftKings contests. Also keep an eye on Bobby Ryan ($5,000), who had an assist and eight shots on goal in Hoffman's spot Saturday. Prince had two assists against the New Jersey Devils last week and has hidden upside for this single night. Other cheap wing options who see top-six minutes, are more proven and have more staying power include Pascal Dupuis ($4,800) and Sergei Plotnikov ($2,700) of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Colin Wilson ($3,700) of the Nashville Predators, and Matt Nieto ($3,600) of the San Jose Sharks.

Dougie Hamilton, D, Calgary Flames

DraftKings price: $4,400

Hamilton (1.9 DraftKings points per contest), who was traded from the Boston Bruins to the Flames in the offseason, has sputtered out of the gate in 2015-16 with one goal and no assists in nine games for one of the most disappointing teams League-wide. That said, you can take a cheap flier on Hamilton on the road against the Senators, who have surrendered four-plus goals in each of their past three home games. Luckily, plus-minus (Hamilton is minus-11) does not count or hurt you in DraftKings scoring, plus there's foundation in Hamilton's coverage with 14 shots on goal and 14 blocks this season. I wouldn't be surprised to see him pay off as an against-the-grain bargain with five-plus DraftKings points in this spot.

Martin Jones, G, San Jose Sharks

DraftKings price: $7,200

The goalie matchups are mostly set for Wednesday with starters projected for all six teams. The Sharks got Paul Martin back in the lineup Saturday, which is great news for Jones, who's priced fourth in the contest and $500 cheaper than Marc-Andre Fleury, who will have a much tougher time providing value on the road against the Washington Capitals than Jones should at home against the Nashville Predators. Jones averages 6.4 DraftKings points per game this season and has been stellar in all but two games. To quiet any doubters after consecutive losses, he held the Carolina Hurricanes to two goals in a win his last time out. He has a .940 save percentage this season and is the best value goalie on the board for Wednesday.
